New Water Service Connection

PROCEDURE: CONNECTING OR DISCONNECTING TO WATER SERVICE

The following information applies to:

  • the installation of the new water service connections/disconnections
  • owner initiated requests to service upgrade for existing service connections (replacement) including properties with existing double or "Y" connections, where property owner would like to upgrade to a single connection. This will be subject to associated fees.

Development charges are established in Bylaw.

Please read through the following before proceeding with your application. A convenient online form has been provided below.

Standard Residential, Nonindustrial Service utilizing 19mm (3/4 inch) service

  1. The District does NOT replace or install water service connections on private property. This is the property owner's responsibility.
  2. The District does not refer property owners to contractors for work on private property. The property owner may, but does not have to, contract to the assigned District Contractor independent of the work undertaken on District property.
  3. Applications must be in writing, and include a legal description, a lot plan, a description of the service needed to be installed, or disconnected, and a target date for completion of connection or disconnect.
  4. The application will be reviewed by the Trustees at the next regular monthly board meeting. Anyone may disconnect from water service at any time, for any reason.
  5. Fees: Fees and charges are non-refundable.
    a. Standard Residential, Single Family Dwelling Service Connections size is 19mm (3/4 inch). Larger service connections are available, additional fees may apply.
    b. Disconnection fee for any water service, for any reason, is the actual cost to the district to dig up the service connection, disconnect, and cap the service, plus $500 administration fee.
  6. These costs will be communicated to the applicant within 8 weeks of application.
  7. Installation or disconnect will occur within 12 weeks of receiving payment and is weather dependent.
  8. Applicants must contact their assigned District Contractor to schedule and confirm the location of the water service connection. Applicants will be provided with the contractor's contact information at the time of application and payment.

Larger than 1 Inch Service Install: Industrial, commercial, institutional or multi-unit residential site servicing applications

  1. Commercial, institutional, industrial and multi-unit residential water service connections are sized according to the intended use as defined by the approved application. Staff and/or assigned District Contractor will conduct a preliminary review of the Site Servicing Plan and then communicate with and guide the applicant through the application process.
  2. Costs will be determined based upon the scope of work for each application as identified by the assigned District Contractors. These costs will be communicated to the applicant within approximately 6-8 weeks of application. The applicant is required to pay all fees in advance of construction.
  3. The installation date is coordinated with the applicant after the District has established the fee for the work and the applicant has paid for the service installation. The District and the contractor will arrange for a preconstruction inspection and site meeting with the applicant to finalize the line and grade of the services to be installed.
